　ビート世代ジャック・ケルアックの代表作、その映画化はながいこと挫折してきたが、コッポラの製作の下、あのブラジルの監督によって達成される。メキシコの古き良き時代のシーンをはじめ、ありきたりの米国人監督が撮ったものとはひと味ことなっている。ナイーブな感性に恵まれながら執筆のためのインスピレーションが乏しい主人公がとてつもない相棒に出会って破天荒な米国縦断の旅へと繰り出すもので、いわばお祭り騒ぎと孤独という矛盾のなかでの自分捜しとでもいうものか。
ストーリーとしてはそれほど新奇なものではない。主人公の内的リアリズムに触れたい。「イージーライダー」の頃とくらべれば、まだ夢があった時代にみえる。

This picture comes from the famous novel of Jack Kerouac, like a bible of the Beat generation, under the control of Coppola, without question, an ambitious picture. A young writer Sal couldn’t began to work, short of the inspiration. But with his tremendous friend, travelling along the United States, finally he got to come close to his inspiration.

Es la obra muy siginificativa de Jack Kerouac de la Generacion Beat, y habia intento de filmar, pero habia fracasado siempre. Esta vez, con el empujon de Coppola, tambien el famos director brasileño filmó muy correctamente. Incluso las escenas de buenos y viejos dias de Mexico, hay cierto tono diferente con los propios productores amercanos. Asi es que el protagonista, despues de recorrer el territorio gigantesco, pudo agarrar a su musa. Quiza la historia sera simple, pero recorrer sacirificando otros valores sera importante.
