酷寒、かつ強風の地に老いた父親と娘が暮らす。唯一の財産といえるのは馬で、それによってわずかな収入を得ているらしい。食事といえば毎日、茹でたジャガイモがひとつでなぜか皿で手でつぶして食べる。
このような静的な、しかしあまりに単調な暮らしが際限なくつづいていきそう。じつは見ているのもすこぶる退屈。しかし近くの井戸が涸れ、馬も動けなくなってきて暮らしは破たんへとむかう。しかしなすすべもない。わずかなエピソードがいくつかあり、ジプシーが通りかかったとき、アメリカへ行こうとか誘う。従来の概念では、ヨーロッパは動であり非ヨーロッパ世界は静というパターンであるが、このようなヨーロッパを見せつけられると自分の持っているいわばステレオパターンなるものが揺らいでしまうのを感じる。それにしても生きることとおなじことを繰り返していくこと、このさきになにも目新しいものがありえないと思うのは、そのなかにいればすこしも地獄ではないのかもしれない。冒頭にニーチェのことが少々、語られ、邦題は「ニーチェの馬」となるのらしい。

An old man and his daughter lived in a simple house with a austere life, and their horse was their only income. There was a strong wind and the coldness. They just ate a potato in a meal, without knife nor fork. Their life was so static and there would not had certain plan of the future. One day they found their well dried up and the horse could not walk. How can I interpret this grave tone? In the corner of Europe, there are people like them who don’t have any other way but maintain their patience.

En el rincon de la Europa, hay gente que solamente vive sobriamente con el ingreso muy limitado hacia el future. Aqui, un anciano y su hija viven apenas manteniendo su caballo para cargar. Estos dos unicamnete consume una papa en cada comida. Es la tierra muy fria y fuerte viento. Parece que ni siquiera hay razon para vivir, o bien, a veces toman algo como el aguardiente. No puedo creer que hay Europa tan estatica. Por lo general, pensamos que la Europa tiene el tiempo que se corre mientras en otras partes del mundo hay tiempo parado o circular. Si me permite exagerar, es una sorpresa para revisar la imagen de la Europa. Sin embargo, hay una escena que pasaron como los gitanos e invitaron dirigirse hachia America. Todavia tiene alguna esperanza?
